D9R Balance Gear Inspection
Through Auxillary Alternator Cover
When inspecting the 2W-7611 Balance Gear for correctlocation of the timing mark, it is best to inspect through the auxillaryalternator cover (example below) on the back side of the engine/flywheelhousing.
This cover can be accessed by lifting the firewallto access engines in chassis.
Set the engine to "Top Dead Center" once the engineis at Top Dead Center, the edge of the balance weight on the gear shouldalign with the bolt as seen below.
If the gear is found in the position below thetiming is correct. However if it is not found in this position this willrequire the engine, flywheel housing, and flywheel to be removed in orderto correctly install the balance gear with the timing mark correctly alignedwith the crankshaft.
Note: If there is excessive vibration foundin the unit prior to inspection, this is an indicator that the 2W-7611Balance Gear is not properly timed. With the flywheel removed, plug 8T-6761(circled in red below) can be removed. The plug is an inset ½" squaredrive 1" NPT pipe plug
