Introduction
This special instruction provides the necessary information needed for the conversion of 994 Wheel Loader buckets from a 76.2 mm (3 in) cutting edge to a 101.6 mm (4 in) cutting edge. The 101.6 mm (4 in) cutting edge will address the cutting edge cracking by adding additional cross-sectional area to the cutting edge. This procedure also requires the paddle plates to be changed from a 35 mm (1.4 in) thick plate to a 50 mm (2.0 in) thick plate. The wrapper may also have to be repaired due to cracks which have developed from the plug welds giving way.Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Necessary Parts

Clean the bucket of oil, grease, paint and dirt in the areas to be repaired. The area to be welded must be clean to produce an acceptable weld. Because the new cutting edge already has a "Two Pass" butter bead in all areas which will be welded, the preheat recommendations are as follows:For the cutting edge to bucket liner and paddle plate joint, preheat to 16°C (60°F).For the bucket side plate to cutting edge corner adapters joint, preheat
