Introduction
994 Wheel Loaders may have limited clearance between the top of the air conditioning unit and the bottom of the ROPS beam. This could result in the ROPS having to be removed to perform service work on the air conditioning unit.This instruction provides the necessary information needed to rework the air conditioner to provide clearance for servicing the air conditioner fan motors without removing the ROPS. This modification will allow the air conditioning unit to be detached from its mounting and moved rearward to a position beneath the removable ROPS cover for service.Reference: Service Manual.Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Necessary Parts
Rework Procedure
1. Remove the ROPS from the machine. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR4755, for procedure.2. Remove the air conditioning unit from the cab. 3. Remove nuts from studs (A) and cut studs (A) approximately 6.4 mm (.25 in) below top of nut.4. After cutting studs (A), install and weld the nuts back on studs (A) and grind smooth.5. Remove four studs (B) by cutting off and drilling out. Weld on four 3/8 in. 8J-6030 Nuts and four 5M-2894 Washers. This combination of washer and nut should be the same height as nut and studs (A) in Step 4. 6. Using the dimensions shown in the picture, locate and drill two holes (C) to match mounting holes drilled in cab roof. Weld a 3/8 in. 8J-6030 Nut and 5M-2894 Washer on each hole (C) the same way as was done in Step 5. DO NOT drill too deep, components are on the other side of plate. 7. Remove sleeve coupling. Rework rods (D), as shown, by cutting 15 mm (.6 in) off of the rod. 8. Grind a flat face on the side of both rods (D). 9. Cut two, 16 mm (.63 in) lengths off of a 5B-1309 Coupling. Weld the two lengths (10) in place, as shown, to protect the control rods. 10. Using one 8P-6575 Rod (3), one 8P-3597 Sleeve (4), one 3H-1118 Pin (5) and one 5P-4115 Washer (6) for each assembly, fabricate two rod assemblies (E) as shown. Braze washer (6) to rod (3) and attach sleeve (4) to rod (3) with pin (5). 11. Drill two 16 mm (.63 in) holes (F) in the cab roof to match the holes (C) drilled in Step 6. 12. Drill two 16 mm (.63 in) holes (G) in the mounting panel to match the holes (C) drilled in Step 6. It may be necessary to notch two holes (H), as shown, to clear the couplings that were welded on in Step 9. 13. Install the two rod assemblies (E), that were fabricated in Step 10, to control rods (D) that were reworked in Step 7.14. Install the 7V-8785 Gasket on the roof and install air conditioning unit back on the cab.15. Hold the cover up to the unit, as shown. Cut off both rod assemblies (E), allowing
