GROMMET 4D5980 - Caterpillar

1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank. The capacity is 143 U.S. gal. (541 litre). 2. Remove sheet assembly (1) from the right rear side of the machine. The weight is 85 lb. (39 kg). 3. Remove two bolts on the inside of sheet assembly (3). Loosen bolts (2) and remove sheet assembly (3). The weight is 50 lb. (23 kg). 4. Fasten a hoist and remove the four bolts that hold panel assembly (4) in position. Remove panel assembly (4). The weight is 110 lb. (49.5 kg). 5. Remove ladder assembly (5) and step assembly (6) from the right side of the machine. 6. Remove tube assemblies (7) and (8) and disconnect wires (9) and (10). 7. Remove handrail assembly (11) from the operator's platform. 8. Fasten a hoist as shown and remove enclosure assembly (12) from the side of the hydraulic tank. The weight is 210 lb. (94.5 kg). 9. Remove coupling (13) that holds the head assembly to the tank. 10. Install tooling (A) as shown. Fasten a hoist to tooling (A). 11. Remove hydraulic head assembly (14) from the tank. The weight of the hydraulic head assembly is 410 lb. (184.5 kg).
Use care when bolts (15) are removed. Bolts (15) hold a spring under compression.
VIEW INSIDE THE TANK12. Remove four bolts (15) that hold the oil cooler bypass valve to the tube. Remove the baffle, spring and orifice as a unit. 13. Remove orifice (16), spring (17) from baffle (18).Install Hydraulic Tank Head Assembly
1. Install spring (3) in baffle (1). Install orifice (2) on the spring.
VIEW INSIDE THE TANK2. Install oil cooler bypass valve (4) on the tube assembly inside the tank.3. Make sure the O-ring seal is in position on the top of the tank. 4. Install tooling (A) on the head assembly. Fasten a hoist and put head assembly (5) in its original position on the tank. 5. Install coupling (6) so one of the clamps is 45° 15° from the centerline of the tank that is parallel to the mounting brackets toward the rear bracket. Tighten the clamps to a torque of 17 2 lb.ft. (23 3 N m). 6. Fasten a hoist to the enclosure assembly as shown. Install enclosure assembly (7) to the hydraulic tank. 7. Install handrail assembly (8) on the operator's platform. 8. Install ladder assembly (9) on the enclosure assembly. 9. Install step assembly (10) on the enclosure assembly. 10. Install tube assemblies (11) and (12). Connect wires (14) and (13). 11. Fasten a hoist and put panel assembly (15) in position on the operator's platform. Install the four bolts that hold it in place. 12. Install sheet assembly (16) on the right side of the machine. 13. Install sheet assembly (17) on the right rear side of the machine. The weight is 85 lb. (39 kg).14. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. See LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE.
