Uninterruptible Power Supply: UPSB125 (S/N: SEP1-UP) UPSB130 (S/N: XTC1-UP)Introduction
This Special Instruction provides information about the installation of the RS232/ASCII communication card for uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).The RS232/ASCII communication card enables the transmission of the data for the operating status of the UPS. The communication card enables the transmission of the data to a computer.The RS232/ASCII communication card is equipped with two communication channels that can be used simultaneously but completely independently from one another. The RS232/ASCII communication card complies with the Microsoft Plug and Play standard for PC peripheral identification.Components
The following components are used.
RS232/ASCII communication card
DB9 to DB9 serial RS232 communication cable
Two screws that are used to attach the RS232/ASCII communication card to the UPSNote: The communication cable is compatible with Microsoft Plug and Play detection.Note: If the communication card is stored before use, then leave the communication card in the original packaging. Place the communication card in a dry place. The temperature of the storage area must be kept between −40° C (−40° F) to 70° C (158° F).Configuration
The communication card must be properly configured for the specific application before the card is installed. The parameters must be configured for the operating mode of channel J3 and channel J4.

Pin 2 of the DB9 connector can be configured to be either the reception (Rx) signal or the transmission (Tx) signal. Pin 3 of the DB9 connector can be configured to be either the reception (Rx) signal or the transmission (Tx) signal. Refer to the information that is in the caption for Illustration 6.Note: One of the pins in the connector must be designated as the reception (Rx) signal and the other pin must be designated as the transmission (Tx) signal.
The communication card can be configured to recognize either "information operation on mains 2" or Microsoft Plug and Play detection.Configure the J3 Channel
Use "JMP1" and "JMP2" (1) in order to select the desired pins for Rx and Tx on the DB9 connector. Refer to Illustration 2.

Pin Configuration of Rx and Tx for the J3 ChannelUse "JMP3" (2) in order to set the configuration for operation on "Mains 2" or Microsoft Plug and Play detection. Refer to Illustration 3.Note: This instruction assumes that the UPS is equipped with dual high voltage inputs. One input is referred to as "Mains 1" and the other input is referred to as "Mains 2". Power from a utility provider and power from a generator are two examples of inputs.
