Schematic of the "Ride Control" solenoid circuit. This diagnostic code is associated with the attachment "Ride Control" solenoid. The FMI 05 diagnostic code means that the Machine ECM has detected that the current in the circuit is below normal.Note: The components electrically linked to the Implement ECM 2 are monitored by the Machine ECM. The Machine ECM monitors the components linked to the Implement ECM via the CAN B data link. The "Ride Control" solenoid is a 24 VDC solenoid that is controlled by the Implement ECM 2 ON/OFF output. The Implement ECM 2 will energize or de-energize the solenoid depending on the status of the ride control button that is located on the soft switch panel. This solenoid can be overridden in Cat ET.Conditions that could cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The solenoid has failed.
The energize circuit of the solenoid is open or has a poor connection.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The Machine ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Disconnect the solenoid from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, connect a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 141-PK) to contact 2 (wire U788-BU).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the CID 2129 FMI 05 diagnostic code.Expected Result:The diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code as the jumper wire is installed. Results:
YES - The active diagnostic code changes from an FMI "05" to an FMI "06" diagnostic code when the jumper wire is installed. The solenoid has failed.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this Test Step "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid. Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The CID 2129 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the status of the diagnostic code. The solenoid is not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step remains in place.
Disconnect the machine harness ECM connector from the Implement ECM 2.
At the machine harness connector for the Implement ECM 2, measure the resistance from contact 10 (wire U788-BU) to supply contact (wire 141-PK).
While observing the multimeter resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connectors for
