Information:
Machine level, body (bed) lowered, PARKING BRAKE engaged and engine stopped.
If machine is to be stored in, or shipped to an area with below freezing temperatures, the cooling system must either be protected with antifreeze to the lowest expected ambient temperature, or drained completely.Never add coolant to an overheated engine, allow engine to cool first.Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill Coolant.
1. Loosen radiator cap slowly to release pressure and remove filler cap. 2. Remove cooling system drain valve plug. Open valve and allow coolant to drain.3. Remove engine oil cooler drain plug and drain coolant.4. Remove brake and torque converter drain plugs and drain coolant. 5. Remove plugs from air compressor block and allow coolant to drain.
Use all cleaning solutions with care.
Most commercial cooling system cleaners may be used.6. Close drain valve and install plugs. Fill system with cleaning solution. 17. Start and run engine for 1/2 hour. Stop engine and drain cleaning solution.8. Flush system with clean water until draining water is clean. Do not run engine while flushing.9. Close drain valve. Fill system with neutralizing solution. 210. Start and run engine for 10 minutes. Stop engine and drain neutralizing solution.11. Flush system with clean water, until draining water is clean. Do not run engine while flushing.12. Close drain valve. Install drain plug.13. Mix antifreeze solution to provide protection to the lowest expected ambient temperature.14. To help avoid air locks, add coolant slowly, at 5 U.S. gallons (19 litres) per minute or less. Do not completely fill cooling system. Allow for addition of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent.15. Add antifreeze solution. See REFILL CAPACITIES.16. Add 10 pints (4.75 liters) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, so that this cooling system will have a 3% concentration of conditioner.17. Start and run engine with radiator cap removed. Allow coolant to warm and level to stabilize.18. Add coolant if necessary, to bring level to bottom of fill pipe.19. Observe condition of radiator cap gasket. Replace if damaged.(1)2 lb. Sodium Bisulfate (NaHSO4) per 10 U.S. gallons (1 kilogram per 40 litres) water.(2)1/2 lb. Sodium Carbonate Crystals (Na2CO3 10 H2O) per 10 U.S. gallons (250 grams per 40 litres) water.(51)Cooling System Relief Valve
Always inspect cooling system with engine stopped.Remove radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure. Steam can cause personal injury.Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Machine level, all equipment lowered with slight down pressure, TRANSMISSION and BRAKE LOCK LEVER engaged and engine stopped.1. Open engine access cover.2. Loosen and remove radiator cap slowly. 3. Remove relief valve cover mounting bolts.4. Remove relief valve.5. Clean relief valve and cover with a clean cloth.6. Inspect valve and valve seal. Replace valve assembly if valve or seal is damaged.7. Inspect cover gasket. Replace if damaged.8. Install relief valve, cover and mounting bolts.9. Maintain coolant level to within 1/2 inch (1 cm) of bottom of fill pipe. Add coolant if necessary.10. Inspect radiator cap gasket. Replace if damaged. Install filler cap.(52)Suspension Cylinders
