ScrapersDescription of Change: The starting system for the 657B Scraper engine is now all installed on the scraper. Formerly, the components for starting the scraper were the same as those for the tractor, except for the heat-start switch and the starter. With the new system, the long lengths of cable formerly used over the hitch and gooseneck and back to the scraper engine are not necessary. This gives more positive starting and the operator can hear the operation of the starter and engine.
With this new electrical system, the scraper uses a 35 ampere alternator, two batteries, and a new wiring system for starting of the engine. A 24-volt receptacle to connect to an outside source of power is also available as an attachment on the scraper.
A few changes were also made to the wiring system on the tractor because of the separate system on the scraper.
Adaptable To: The separate system was first used on 657B Scrapers assembled to 657B Tractors 68K1201. The new starting system can, if needed, be installed on earlier 657B Scrapers. Because of the cost of new batteries, alternator, battery box, and a new wiring system on the scraper, conversion is not generally recommended.
