PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR CRACKED OR BROKEN TRACK LINKS ON D8L, D9L, D10 TRACTORS, 4169, PS0242 (Revised September 1987) U-6 A-4 B-1 C-5 E-6 O-5 This Service Letter replaces the January 18, 1985, and the January 18, 1985 (Revised May 1986) Service Letters, PS0242. The Program number has not changed. This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0242" as Part Number and "7755" as Group Number. Termination Date

Problem
Cracked or broken track links can occur on D8L, D9L, or D10 Tractors. The cracks can occur at the bushing strap portion, either near the shoe pad or rail. To a lesser degree, cracks have occurred in a similar location at the pin end. The purpose of this new Program is to provide consistent support for this problem on all D8L, D9L, and D10 Tractors. This is now the only Program for all three models. The replacement links and link assemblies are the same as those on the tractors.

Action Required
A. Replace damaged links with the new individual links listed in the parts chart if: less than three links have visible cracks, and there have been no individual links replaced previously, and the links have operated less than 3 years or 10,000 hours, whichever occurs first B. Replace the entire link assembly with the new link assembly listed in the parts chart, if: three or more links have visible cracks, or one or more links have visible cracks and there have been individual links replaced previously, and the links have operated less than 3 years or 10,000 hours, whichever occurs first WARRANTY ALLOWANCES For replacing less than three links, Caterpillar will allow 100% credit on the necessary parts up to a maximum of 3 years
