The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3863" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3863" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
Although this Program is to be administered as described above on the Affected Product, parts should be reworked in Parts Stock as soon as possible.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the July 26, 1996 (Revised August 1996) Service Letter. Changes have been made to the SMCS Code and the Affected Product.

The ROM controller chip needs to be replaced to prevent premature wear on the hydraulic pump port plates on certain 330 and 330L Excavators. The original ROM incorporates a dithered power shift signal, which can cause premature wear on the hydraulic pump port plates. The replacement ROM removes the dither signal.

Parts Stock
Rework the 1060224-00, 5I8364, 1028010 Control Groups from Parts Stock. The part number tag identifying the control group is located on the front face and is approximately 1 inch high and 2 inches long. Refer to the Rework Procedure.
If the part number on the tag is 1060224-01, then DO NOT rework.
Owner Notification

Rework Procedure
1. Turn the key switch and disconnect switch off.2. Remove the 40-pin and 24-pin connectors from the controller with a 4.0 mm hex wrench. Check the tag on the outside of the controller. Proceed ONLY if the part number on the tag IS NOT 1060224-01 as shown below.
3. Remove the controller from the machine by loosening the four 8T4189 Bolts using 13 mm hex socket. Change the controller ROM in an area free of dust and moisture.
4. Remove the sixteen controller cover mounting bolts, use a 10 mm socket. Remove the cover gently to avoid damaging the inner wires. the cover cannot be fully raised. See Illustration 1.
5. Remove the cover gasket and discard. The service person should be grounded before removing or installing the ROM by touching a metal table, metal
