Install tool (B) in the following manner:
Remove 2J-3505 Nuts (14), 9H-1031 Washers (13), FT-1409 Spacers (12), and FT-1408 Spacers (11) from the studs.

Extend 6V-0113 Cylinder (9) until the cylinder rod is extended by approximately 115 mm (4.5 inch) out of the cylinder.
Install 9H-1031 Washers (13) and 2J-3505 Nuts (14) on the 1M-6766 Studs. Measure the plate at all four corners. Adjust the 2J-3505 Nuts (14) so that all four corners of 6V-2168 Plate (17) are the same distance from the face of the front track roller frame.
Use tool (C) to turn recoil spring retainer (4) counterclockwise to move the retainer out of the front track roller frame by 12.7 mm (0.5 inch). Follow the procedures from Step 3.k.

When the cylinder rod is near the fully retracted position and the recoil spring retainer is not extended by 230 mm (9 inch) out of the front track roller frame, adjust the 2J-3505 Nuts (14). Turn the nuts outward to the ends of 1M-6766 Studs (5) and extend the cylinder rod by the same distance.
Measure the distance from the plate to the face of the front track roller frame. Measure the plate at all four corners. Adjust the 2J-3505 Nuts (14) so that all four corners of 6V-2168 Plate (17) are the same distance from the face of the front track roller frame.
Slowly release the pressure of the spring and turn recoil spring retainer (4) outward while the cylinder rod is retracted in steps by 12.7 mm (0.5 inch). Follow the procedures from Step 4.d until the force of the spring is released.

Remove tool (B). Fasten a hoist to recoil spring retainer (4) and remove the retainer.

Attach a hoist to guide assembly (19) and remove the guide assembly.

Typical example
Do not damage the threads on the inside of the front track roller frame when the recoil spring is installed.
Note: Tube (21) slides in recoil spring (20). Recoil spring (20) must be kept level so that the spring does not slide off the tube unexpectedly. If the spring slides unexpectedly, you could drop the spring.Note: Tube (21) and recoil spring (20) together weigh 194 kg (427 lb).
Position a bar in the tube and the recoil spring, as shown. See Illustration 11. Use a lifting strap on the bar next to the spring and attach a hoist to the bar. Counterbalance the tube and the recoil spring at the opposite end of the bar. Use the hoist to remove tube (21) and recoil spring (20) from the front track roller frame.Note: The tube weighs 66 kg (145 lb).
Remove tube (21) from recoil spring (20).
