GUARD AS 3805271 - Caterpillar

This Procedure describes the steps needed to replace the 478-7131 RH and 478-4152 LH Operator platform access gates on certain PM620 and PM622 Cold Planers.
Machine Preparation
1. Start the Engine, park the machine on a hard, level surface.
2. Center the second stage conveyor.
3. Turn Engine start switch to OFF position.
4. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
5. Install rear leg supports.

Attach a ?Do not Operate? warning tag or a similar warning tag to the start switch or to the controls before you service the equipment or before you repair the equipment. These warning tag (Special Instruction, SEHS7332) are available from your Caterpillar dealer.

RH OPERATOR PLATFORM HANDRAIL GP.

Remove the 478-7130 Gate (A), 474-9875 Handrail (B), and 474-9876 Handrail (C) from the machine.
Note: Retain removed hardware for later use (clamps, bolts, and washers).
Rework the existing handrail (B), referring to image 1.4.1 through image 1.4.3 for details.
* Use the proper tool to remove plate (D) from Handrail (B). Grind the surface flush at that location.
* Weld the 385-1904 Holder (1) to the existing 474-9875 Handrail (B).
* Drill Hole (H) on existing 474-9875 Handrail (B).
* Prepare and paint the newly added components and weld affected areas black.

Rework the existing Handrail (C), referring to image 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 for details.
* Use the proper tool to remove plate (E) from Handrail (C). Grind the surface flush at that location.
* Weld the 516-1979 Holder (2) to the existing 474-9876 Handrail (C).
* Prepare and paint the newly added components and weld affected areas black.

Reassemble the 474-9875 Handrail (B) and 474-9876 Handrail (C) to the 374-1343 RH Handrail GP using the previously removed clamps (N).

Install 511-0136 Tube (4), referring to image 1.7.1 through image 1.7.3 for details.
* Insert spring (3) inside tube (4). Use hole (P) to secure it with bolt (12), washer (13), and locknut (14).
* Install tube (4) on Handrail (B). Use previously drilled hole (H) to secure it with bolt (10), washers (8), and locknut (11). Install washer (9) between tube (4) and handrail (B).
* Ensure tube (4) retracts, extends, and locks properly.

Loosen bolts (S) and remove existing Handrail GP (T) from the machine.
Note: Retain removed hardware (S) for later use.
Install the new LH Handrail GP (5), (6), and (7) to the machine, referring to image 1.9.1 and 1.9.3 for details.
* Use previously removed bolts and washers (S) to secure the new LH handrail GP to the machine.
* Insert spring (3) inside tube (7) use hole (P). Secure it with bolt (12), washer (13), and locknut (14).
* Install tube (7) on Handrail (6). Use the hole on the handrail to secure it with bolt (10), washers (8), and locknut (11). Install washer (9) between tube (7) and Handrail (6).
* Ensure tube (7) retracts, extends, and locks properly.
