Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g00551222Note: On the lower bearing, align the hole in the bearing with the hole in the oil pump's body.
Put a coat of clean engine oil on the outside of each bearing. Use Tool (B) and a press in order to install the bearings (1) into the oil pump body. Install the bearings 12.30 0.25 mm (0.484 0.010 inch) below the surface of the oil pump body. The inside diameter of the bearings must be 60.039 0.040 mm (2.3637 0.0016 inch) after installation.

Put a coat of clean engine oil on the outside of each bearing. Use Tool (B) and a press in order to install the bearings (3) into the oil pump cover (4). Align the hole in the bearing with the hole in the cover. Install the bearings 7.50 0.25 mm (0.230 0.010 inch) below the surface of the oil pump body. The inside diameter of the bearings must be 60.039 0.040 mm (2.3637 0.0016 inch) after installation.

Ensure that the dowels (9) are installed to a height of 12 1 mm (0.47 0.04 inch).
Put the O-ring seal (5) and six O-ring seals (8) in position on the cover (4). Put clean engine oil on the seals.
Put a coat of clean engine oil on the bearings and the gear pockets in the oil pump body (10).
Place the oil pump drive shaft (6) and the oil pump idler shaft (7) in the oil pump body (10). Ensure that the gears are 0.14 to .16 mm (0.006 to 0.010 inch) below the surface of the housing.
Put clean engine oil on the bearings in the cover (4). Put clean engine oil on the top surface of the gears in the oil pump body (10).
Put the cover (4) in position on the oil pump body (10).

Ensure that the cover (4) is against the oil pump body. Ensure that all of the O-ring seals are in place. Install the bolts that hold the cover (4) to the oil pump body.
Ensure that the plug (11) is installed in the oil pump idler shaft.
Ensure that the plug (12) is installed in the front cover.
Illustration 5 g00551226Note: Ensure that the dowel (13) is installed at the location that is shown in Illustration 5 for a SAE standard rotation engine.
Install the dowel (13) to a height of 8 1 mm (0.32 0.04 inch).
Ensure that the two plugs (15) are installed.
Install Tool (A).
Install the gear and washer (14). Install the bolt.
Strike the head of the bolt with a hammer. Tighten the bolt again.

Ensure that the plug (16) is installed in the oil pump drive shaft.
