Information:

start by:a) remove valve liftersb) remove timing gear cover 1. Use tool (A) and remove stud (1) from the end of the camshaft. 2. Turn the camshaft until the holes in gear (2) are in alignment with bolts (3). To keep the engine timing correct during removal and installation of the camshaft, put a mark on the teeth of the idler gear and camshaft gear at location (X). Put a mark on the teeth of the camshaft gear and crankshaft gear at location (Y).3. Remove bolts (3), lock and thrust plate.4. Remove the camshaft and gear from the cylinder block. 5. Remove the camshaft gear from the camshaft with tooling (B).Install Camshaft
Install the camshaft gear with the timing mark away from the camshaft.1. Heat the camshaft gear to a maximum temperature of 600° F (315°C) and install the gear on the camshaft. Make sure the groove in the camshaft gear is in alignment with the key in the camshaft. 2. Put clean engine oil on the cams and bearing journals of the camshaft. Install camshaft and gear (1) in the cylinder block. Make sure the marks on the idler gear and the crankshaft gear are in alignment with the marks on the camshaft gear. 3. Turn the camshaft and make sure the "C" mark on the camshaft is in alignment with the "C" mark on the camshaft gear as shown. If a new gear has been installed, it will be necessary to check the engine timing to make sure the timing is correct. See REMOVE AND INSTALL ACCESSORY DRIVE HOUSING. 4. Install thrust plate (3), lock (2) and the bolts that hold the camshaft in place. 5. Install stud (4) with tool (A). 6. Tighten the stud to a torque of 11 2 lb.ft. (15 3 N m).end by:a) install timing gear coverb) install valve lifters
