Poor adjustment of the door handle and latch assembly may cause the cab door to malfunction on certain Backhoe Loaders. The 252-1864 Latch As , 252-1865 Latch As ,and the 252-1862 Handle As may need to be adjusted or replaced.Solution
The following is the repair procedure for door latches. Inspect the latch assembly. The door may seize. The door may not close properly. it may be necessary to replace the latch assembly. The following steps outline the procedure for replacing and adjusting the latch assembly.Removing the Handle

Remove both 248-2714 Acorn Nuts (1) .
Remove 4 9X-2038 Washers (3) .
Remove 253-1858 Cover (LATCH) (2) and remove 132-2249 Spacers .

In order to gain access to the screws that secure the external handle, remove 253-1857 Plate (4) by removing the 9X-2045 Screws (5) .

In order to relieve interference with the slot in the latch plate, reposition the external handle.
Loosen 3 5C-9553 Bolts (6) and slide the handle in the direction of the arrows by 2.5 0.5 mm (0.10 0.02 inch).
Torque the bolts to 6 N m (53.10 lb in) and check operation of handle.Identification of Latest Door Latch
Check that the door latch is the latest release. Refer to Illustration 4.

The latch on the right (B) replaces the latch on the left (A). Change the latch if the slot is similar to example (A). Refer to Table 1.

Loosen the locknut (8) and remove the bolt (9) from the handle.
Remove the four screws (7) from the front of the latch plate.
Fit the new latch to the back of the plate. Secure the latch with two 9X-2045 Screws in the holes closest to the door frame.
Replace the existing bolt (9) with a 8T-6974 Bolt . Use two 258-3697 Nylon Washers and the existing 253-1817 Spacer to secure the latch assembly. Refer to Illustration 5for proper orientation. Tighten the bolt until the thread is fully engaged. The locknut is not required.

Use four washers (12) and two Acorn Nuts (11) to replace the cover.
