If there is available clearance, it is recommended that the oil pan be removed before removing the seal carrier. A new oil pan gasket must be used when installing the oil pan after the seal carrier has been installed.1. Remove eight bolts (1) and four bolts (2). Loosen the remaining oil pan bolts to slightly lower the oil pan away from the seal carrier. Use a screwdriver and pry the rear seal carrier from the two dowels carefully. Inspect and replace the oil pan portion of the gasket if necessary. This gasket must be cut from a new oil pan gasket. The following step is for the installation of the rear seal carrier.
Care must be taken not to cover or block any oil passages with sealant.
2. Clean surface of the cylinder block and the seal carrier with 6V1541 Primer and allow to dry. Apply a thin coat of 1U8846 Gasket Maker on the rear seal carrier and oil pan, location (3). Position the gasket and the rear seal carrier and install bolts (1) and (2). Torque bolts (1), and then bolts (2) down evenly.End By:a. install flywheel housing
