Information:
Make tests in a clean level area only and with safe ventilation for the exhaust. There must be only one operator. Keep all other personnel away from the machine. Check the operation of the brakes before the tests are made.
1. Install the 6V3121 Multitach Group on the engine.2. Engage the wheel brakes and start the engine.3. Disengage the parking brake.
To make sure that the transmission oil does not get hot, do not keep the torque converter in a full stall condition for more than ten seconds. After the torque converter is stalled, put the control in NEUTRAL and run the engine at 1200 to 1500 rpm to cool the oil.
4. Put the transmission control lever in FOURTH SPEED FORWARD, then push the accelerator pedal down completely. Allow the engine rpm to stabilize and take a reading from the tachometer.5. The correct stall speed is 1910 75 rpm.Stall speeds that are low are an indication that engine performance is not correct or the stator of the torque converter is locked. If the test is to be repeated, allow at least two minutes between tests with the transmission in NEUTRAL to allow the transmission to cool down.Torque Converter Turbine Hub End Play Check
1. Remove the transmission and torque converter from the vehicle as a unit.2. Remove the torque converter from the transmission.3. Put the flywheel side of the torque converter face down on blocks.
Torque Converter
(1) Turbine hub.4. Make an adjustment to 6V2169 Converter Checking Fixture so that the legs will go inside of turbine hub (1).5. Install the fixture into hub (1) and adjust the fixture until the points on the legs are below the hub.6. Install 8S2328 Dial Indicator Group so that the stylus is in contact with the fixture. Set the dial indicator to 0.
Turbine Hub End Play Check7. Move the fixture up against the dial indicator with two screw drivers as shown.8. The end play must not be more than 1.65 mm (.065 in). If the end play is more than 1.65 mm (.065 in), the torque converter must be replaced.Transmission Electrical System Troubleshooting
Transmission Control Schematic
(A) Connector A. (B) Connector B. For a complete schematic of the RT80 & RT100 Telescopic Material Handlers, refer to RT80 & RT100 Electrical System Schematic, Form No. SENB8383.Most of the electrical connectors between components are "Sure-Seal" connectors. If the connections are not made properly, they can cause either continuous or intermittent problems. Make sure all connectors in a problem circuit are fastened correctly before tests are performed. The chart gives the pin and socket numbers across which a voltage measurement should be taken when the gear selector is in the gear shown.Voltage at both six pin connectors (A) and (B) is output voltage and should be taken on the connector coming from the shift control. These measurements must be made with the ignition switch on, the engine off and the parking brake off. The nine pin connector must remain assembled while performing the voltage checks on the six pin connectors.
