Removal Procedure
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
Illustration 1 g01519876Note: Do not pry or gouge the sealing surface of the engine oil pan. Use a rubber mallet to tap lightly on the engine oil pan, if it is necessary.
Remove bolts (2). Remove engine oil pan (1) and the gasket. Installation Procedure

Note: Do not put liquid gasket material on the oil pan gasket or on the gasket surface of the engine oil pan.

Place a new gasket and engine oil pan (1) on the cylinder block.
Install bolts (2) for engine oil pan (1). Tighten Bolts (X). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 3 N m (23 2 lb ft).
Start at Position (Z) and tighten the remaining bolts in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the remaining bolts to a torque of 31 3 N m (23 2 lb ft).
Start at Position (Z) and tighten the bolts again in a counterclockwise direction. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 31 3 N m (23 2 lb ft).
Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.
