Install guide ring (18) on piston (15) .

Note: Ring (18) can be damaged during the installation on piston (15). To prevent possible damage, use Tooling (A) to slowly push ring (18) on the piston. Be careful to not push ring (8) beyond the ring groove in the piston.
Install the O-ring seal (part of ring (18) ) and ring (18) on piston (15). Heat ring (18) to a temperature of 90 °C (195 °F). Use Tooling (A) to slowly install ring (18) on piston (15). Install ring (18) until the ring engages with the annular groove in the piston.
Install O-ring seal (16) in piston (15) .

Install a split ring (12) in the groove in piston rod (8). Apply 1P-0808 Multipurpose Grease to the split ring, the piston rod and the inside diameter of piston (15). Compress the split ring and install piston (15) on piston rod (8) .
Install the other split ring (12), retaining ring (13) and retaining ring (14) in order to hold piston (15) to piston rod (8) .

Install two split rings (4) in guide housing (3) .
Install ring (5) in guide housing (3). Install ring (5) with the sealing lip toward the pressure chamber.
Install scraper ring (6) in guide housing (3). Install the scraper ring with the dust lip toward the outside of the guide housing.
Repeat Step 7 through Step 9 for the other guide housing.

Install cylinder (10) in the housing for the front axle. Install O-ring seal (9) in the groove on the right side only. Apply clean hydraulic oil to the O-ring seal.
Apply clean hydraulic oil to scraper ring (6), ring (5) and two split rings (4) in guide housing (3). Carefully install guide housing (3) on the right side of the housing for the front axle.

Install four bolts (2) that hold guide housing (3) on the right side in position.
Carefully install the other guide housing on the left side of the housing for the front axle.
Install four bolts (2) that hold guide housing (3) on the left side in position.
Tighten eight bolts (2) to a torque of 300 N m (220 lb ft). Remove four bolts (2) and guide housing (3) from the left side on the housing for the front axle.

Use Tooling (B) to measure the distance from the mating surface of the guide housing to the flange face that makes contact with cylinder (10). Record this dimension as dimension (X) .

Make sure that cylinder (10) is firmly pushed into the housing for the front axle. Use Tooling (B) to measure the distance from the mating surface of the housing to the end of cylinder (10), as shown. Record this dimension as dimension (Y) .
Install O-ring seal (9) on the left side of cylinder (10) .

Note: Shim (7) is available in several thicknesses.
Subtract dimension (Y) from dimension (X). The difference is the thickness of shim (7) that needs to be installed in guide housing (3) .
Install shim (7) that is determined in Step
