Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: When the cylinder head is removed, a new spacer plate gasket must be installed. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Spacer Plate - Remove and Install" .

Clean the surfaces of the cylinder head and the cylinder block that are in contact with each other. Ensure that the surfaces are clean and dry. Install a new, dry cylinder head gasket (1) on the cylinder block.
Fasten a hoist to cylinder head (2) and put the cylinder head in position on the cylinder block.
Apply 6V-4876 Lubricant to all of the cylinder head bolts and rocker shaft bolts except bolt (25) . Refer to Illustration 3. Install the cylinder head bolts and washers that hold the cylinder head in place.Note: Do not tighten the cylinder head bolts at this time.
Loosen the adjusting screws on the rocker arms for valve clearance. This will prevent a bent valve or a broken pushrod during installation.

Install pushrods (4) and rocker shaft assembly (3) . Install bolts (5) and the washers that hold the rocker shaft in place.

Tighten the cylinder head bolts, as follows:
Tighten all of the bolts (1 through 26) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 150 15 N m (115 12 lb ft) .
Tighten all of the bolts (1 through 26) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 250 17 N m (185 13 lb ft) .
Tighten all of the bolts (1 through 26) in a numerical sequence to a final torque of 250 17 N m (185 13 lb ft) .
Tighten all of the remaining bolts in the letter sequence (A through G) to a torque of 43 7 N m (32 5 lb ft) .Note: For cylinder heads that are equipped with a compression brake (Jake Brake), refer to Specifications, "Compression Brake (Jake Brake)" .

Adjust the inlet valve lash to 0.38 mm (.015 inch) and the exhaust valve lash to 0.64 mm (.025 inch). Tighten locknuts (10) for the adjusting screws to a torque of 29 7 N m (22 5 lb ft). Refer to Specifications, "Valve Rocker Arms and Lifters" .
Install plate (9) with three bolts (7) , washers and one spacer. Connect tubes (6) and (8) .

Connect wire connector (11) . Install hose (12) and tube (13) to the turbocharger.

Connect inlet hose (14) and drain tube (15) .

Install bolts (16) .End By:
Install the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrods - Install" .
Install the fuel injection lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines - Remove and Install" .
