1. Remove the cable from the drum.2. Turn the winch up on the right side. 3. Remove the drag adjustment knob and spring from cage assembly (3).4. Remove cover (1) and seal (2) from the cover.5. Remove bolt (4) and retainer (5). 6. Use three 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws and remove cage assembly (3) from case assembly (6). Weight of the cage assembly is 50 lb. (22.68 kg). 7. Use a press and tool (A) to remove the two bearing cups and cones from cage assembly (3).8. Remove O-ring seal (7) from cage assembly (3).9. From a section of steel, make an adapter 3/8" × 1 1/4" × 7" long (9.53 × 31.75 × 177.8 mm long) and drill a 9/16 in. (14.3 mm) hole in the center. 10. Fasten the adapter to the drum shaft with bolt (4). Fasten a hoist to the drum shaft, remove the drag adjustment plug (8) and remove the drum assembly. Weight of the drum assembly is 300 lb. (136.08 kg). Plug (8) can fall to the bottom of the case assembly when the cage assembly is removed from the case assembly. Make sure plug (8) is removed to prevent damage to the parts when the winch is put into operation.Install Drum
1. Fasten a hoist to the drum assembly with the fabricated adapter and install the drum assembly in the case assembly. 2. Use a press and tool (A) to install the two bearing cups and cones in cage assembly (1) as shown. 3. Install a new O-ring seal under the check valve in cage assembly (1).4. Install cage assembly (1) on case assembly (2).5. Install the retainer and the bolt and tighten to a torque of 85 5 lb. ft. (115.2 6.8 N m). 6. Install a new O-ring seal in cover (6) and install the cover on cage assembly (1).7. Install plug (5), spring (4) and knob (3) in cage assembly (1).8. Install the cable on the drum after the winch is installed on the machine.Disassemble Drum
start by:a) remove drum 1. Remove the bolts and remove plate (1). 2. Use two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws and remove cage (3) and shims (4). Keep the shims together for installation.3. Remove the O-ring seal and lip-type seal (2) from cage (3). 4. Remove the bearing cup from cage (3) with tooling (A). 5. Use two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws 4 in. long to remove jaw assembly (5) from drum (6). 6. Remove O-ring seal (9) from the drum.
When the shaft assembly is removed, bearing (10), retainer (8) and spring (7) can come off the shaft assembly and cause bodily injury or cause damage to the parts.
7. Install the fabricated adapter on the end of the shaft assembly as shown and fasten a hoist to it. Remove the shaft assembly from the drum slowly. Weight of the shaft assembly is 105 lb.
