Some D8L illustrations are shown.Start By:a. remove main drive shaftb. remove axles 1. Remove yoke (1) from the transmission shaft.2. Remove retainer (2) and the O-ring seal from the main frame case. 3. Remove the bolts that hold block (20) to cover (17). Remove the bolts that hold cover (17) to the transmission. Remove cover (17).4. Remove block (20) and tubes (19) from the hydraulic control valves. Remove tubes (19) from block (20). Remove O-ring seals (18) from tubes (19). 5. Remove cotter pins (23) and pins (24) that hold linkages (22) to the priority valve.6. Remove four bolts (21) and remove linkages (22) from the transmission. Not all the bolts can be installed in cover (17) when it is installed in the backward position.7. Put cover (17) in position as shown on the transmission. Install as many bolts as possible. 8. Fasten a hoist to cover (17). The weight of the transmission and bevel gears is 1247 Kg (2750 lb.).
Do not remove bolts (26). These bolts hold the transmission and bevel gears together as a unit.
Do not stand behind the transmission and bevel gears as they are removed. Personal injury can be the result.
9. Remove bolts (25) that hold the transmission and bevel gears to the main frame case. Remove two bolts (27) that hold the bevel gear to the main frame case.10. Install two 1/2" - 13 NC forcing screws (28) in the bevel gears. Tighten the forcing screws evenly.11. Lift the transmission and bevel gear unit (29) a small amount and pull it to the rear (out) of the machine.12. Pull the unit back until the rollers on the transfer case make contact with the stops on the rails in the main frame.13. Put tooling (C) in position and lower the transmission and bevel gears on to it. 14. Install tooling (D) on the bevel gear case as shown and fasten a hoist.15. Remove the transmission and bevel gears as a unit. The weight is 1247 Kg (2750 lb.). 16. Remove O-ring seals (30) and (31) from the main frame case. 1. Inspect all parts for damage and make replacement if needed. Put clean oil on the O-ring seals. 2. Put O-ring seal (32) in position on the bevel gear case. 3. Put O-ring seals (30) and (31) in position on the main frame case. 4. Install tooling (D) on the transfer gear case and fasten a hoist to tooling (D).5. Put transmission and bevel gear unit (29) in position as shown. Make sure the rollers on the transfer gear case are on top of the tubes in the main frame case. 6. Put tooling (C) in position and lower the transmission and bevel gears on to it.7. Move the hoist to cover (17) as shown. Fasten the hoist to the cover. Remove tooling (D). 8. Install two 6V2156 Link Brackets (33), [part of tooling (E)], to the transmission as shown. Fasten
