The article that follows has updated information.The following oil pumps may be assembled with two different types of housings. The two housings are different. This might cause confusion in the field.One of the housings has a drilled oil gallery and the other housing does not have a drilled oil gallery. The housing with the drilled oil gallery allows the pump to send oil to a passage that allows lube for an idler gear in the gear train. See Illustrations below. Refer to Table 1 and Table 2 in order to determine the correct housing.

The following 3406 oil pumps that are listed in Table 1 do not require a housing with a drilled oil passage. The pumps that are listed in Table 2 can be remanufactured with either housing. However, if you receive a 3406 oil pump with a housing that has a drilled oil gallery, then the 2S-7905 Pipe Plug must be in place. Refer to Illustration 3. If the plug is not in place, the pump will move oil but the pressure is lost because the oil is not diverted to the proper oil gallery.
