WHEEL LOADER,
Information:
9. Engine rpm in Neutral should be approximately 800 rpm. Full speed rpm in Forward and Reverse should be approximately 2450 rpm.10. If any of the above engine speeds are incorrect, check the following: a. Speed adjustments on the engine may need to be reset.b. The engine may need to be tuned up or repaired.c. The control linkage from the shuttle assembly to the engine may need adjustment or repair. See Control Linkage Adjustments in this module.Transmission Stall Test
If power train performance is poor but the Engine RPM Test checks out all right, the following procedure should be performed. This will check for excessive slippage in the clutch plates or torque converter.
This test involves running the engine at full speed with the transmission engaged and the brakes applied. Perform this test on a hard, level surface. Clear area to the front and rear of machine.
1. Securely block both sides of the front and rear wheels of the machine.2. Attach a tachometer to the engine.3. Start the engine and allow time for the system to warm up.4. Move the transmission shift lever to the fourth gear position.5. Make sure the parking brake is engaged.6. Press down firmly on the service brake pedal.
Engage the transmission only long enough to obtain a tachometer reading of the full engine speed. If the transmission overheat light (on instrument panel) lights, move the shuttle lever back to Neutral immediately.
7. Move the shuttle lever to the right. Push the shuttle lever forward to increase engine rpm. Note the tachometer reading and immediately move the shuttle and the transmission shift lever back to Neutral.8. Record the tachometer reading from step 7 on the following table.9. Let the engine run at idle speed for at least two minutes to cool the transmission thoroughly.10. Repeat steps 4 through 7, this time moving the shuttle lever to the left and pulling it back to increase engine rpm.11. Record the Reverse tachometer reading on the following table. 12. Shut the engine off.13. The recorded engine speed should be approximately 1500 rpm in both boxes on the above table.14. If either of the above engine speeds are too low, check the following: a. Speed adjustments on the engine may need to be reset.b. The engine may need to be tuned up or repaired.c. The control linkage from the shuttle assembly to the engine may need adjustment or repair. See Control Linkage Adjustments in this module.15. If either of the above engine speeds are too high, there is probably excessive slippage in the torque converter or the shuttle assembly. Perform the Clutch Pressure Test in this module. If clutch pressure is ok, the shuttle assembly or the torque converter may have to be repaired or replaced.Control Linkage Adjustments
Shuttle Lever Assembly with Attached Linkages
(1) Engine speed linkage. (2) Control valve linkage. The shuttle lever assembly performs two jobs:When the shuttle lever is moved to the left or the right, control valve linkage (2) actuates the control valve. This supplies hydraulic pressure to the forward
