Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with the 341-4028 Timing Ring on certain C4.4 engines. These issues may cause the engine to operate erratically or may cause the engine to stop. The engine may not restart. Diagnostic code 190-8 may be active.Solution
Refer to the procedure below for the solution to the issues with 341-4028 Timing Ring .The parts that may be required are 276-7394 Bolts , 341-4028 Timing Ring and 359-0716 Crankshaft Gp
Check that the retaining screws for the timing ring are secure. If the screws are loose, follow steps 2 to 6.
If the internal threaded holes are damaged, replace the crankshaft assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft - Remove" for the correct procedure to remove the existing crankshaft.Note: If necessary, degrease tapped holes in the new crankshaft.
Install new 341-4028 Timing Ring to new crankshaft. Install the new bolts to the crankshaft assembly. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 15 N m (11 lb ft). Ensure that there is no gap between the crankshaft and the timing ring.
Install the new crankshaft to the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft - Install" for the correct procedure.
Check the piston heights of the cylinders. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Piston Height - Inspect" for the correct procedure.
If necessary, replace the connecting rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly for the correct procedure.
