Remove the lower half of main bearing (3) from main bearing cap (1) .
Illustration 4 g01096660
Note: If the crankshaft is turned in the wrong direction, the tab on the bearing will be pushed between the crankshaft and the bearing area of the cylinder block. This can result in damage to the cylinder block and/or the crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft so that the bearing tab is rotated out of the cylinder block.
Remove the upper half of the main bearing by installing Tooling (A) in oil hole (4) in the crankshaft. Use Tooling (B) in order to turn the crankshaft in the direction which will remove the upper half of the main bearing.
