Start By:a. remove timing caseb. remove oil pumpc. remove relief valve
If any of the parts are worn enough to have an effect on the performance of the oil pump, the entire pump must be replaced.
The oil pump is mounted on the Number 1 bearing cap. The timing case does not have to be removed if the Number 1 main bearing cap is removed. When installing if the process of removing the main bearing instead of the timing case is followed, tighten the two bolts to a torque of 265 N m (196 lb ft). 1. Use Tool (A) to remove snap ring (1).2. Remove idler gear (2). Check the idler gear shaft and bushing for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. 3. Remove three bolts (3). When installing, tighten the three bolts to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb ft).4. Remove oil pump (4). When installing the oil pump, fill the oil pump with clean engine oil. After installing oil pump, check to make sure there is a minimum of 0.076 mm (0.003 inch) backlash between the oil pump gear and the idler gear. For installation of the oil pump, reverse the removal steps.
