Introduction
Reference: For Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting make reference to SENR1328, 824G Wheel Tractor, 825G Soil Compactor & 826G Landfill Compactor Power Train.Reference: For Specifications with illustrations, make reference to SENR1327, 824G Wheel Tractor, 825G Soil Compactor & 826G Landfill Compactor Power Train Specifications. If the Specifications in SENR1327 are not the same as in the Testing and Adjusting, look at the printing date on the cover of each book. Use the Specifications given in the book with the latest date.
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the power shift transmission.
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel.2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.3. Put the transmission control lever in the NEUTRAL position and any speed position. Lock the control lever in neutral.4. Lower the bucket to the ground.5. Put blocks in front of and behind the wheels.6. Install the steering frame lock link.7. Disengage the parking brake. All tests and adjustments must be made with the oil in the transmission hydraulic control system at normal temperature of operation.Electronic Transmission Control (ETC)
The electronic transmission control (ETC) for the transmission is located below a penal on the floor at the right rear of the cab. The main function of the ETC is to shift the transmission. The ETC receives operator input from the transmission controls on the steering wheel and from the auto-manual switch to shift the transmission to the desired speed and direction. The ETC also controls engine starting and the back-up alarm. The ETC will not allow the engine to be started unless the direction control switch is in the neutral position. The back-up alarm is activated any time the direction control switch is in the reverse position. The ETC has built-in system diagnostics to detect faults in the transmission electronic system. The diagnostics are displayed on the Caterpillar Monitoring System when the system is placed in the service mode. For Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting make reference to Service Manual, SENR5890, Electronic Transmission Control System.Transmission Hydraulic Schematic
