Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.

Remove the bolts that attach flange (1) and spacer (2) to the engine oil pump. Remove spacer (2) .
Remove flange (1). Remove the O-ring seals from each side of the flange.

Remove bolts (4) and the washers that connect engine oil pump (5) to tee (3) .
Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil pump (5). The weight of engine oil pump (5) is approximately 105 kg (231 lb).
Remove bolts (6) that attach the engine oil pump to the front housing.

Install Tooling (A) into engine oil pump (5). Tighten Tooling (A) evenly until the engine oil pump is removed from the front housing.
Remove O-ring seals (7) from the dowels in the front housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the joint that is between the engine oil pump and the tee. Discard the O-ring seals.

Remove O-ring seal (8) from engine oil pump (5). Discard the O-ring seal.
If dowel (9) will be replaced, remove the dowel.
