Problem
In some high impact or rough terrain operating conditions, the 8R0745 Axle may bend on certain Challenger 65 Tractors.

Action Required
If the 8R0745 Axle Assembly becomes bent in service, follow the procedures in the Service Manual and replace it with an 8R6630 Axle Assembly. Before a failure occurs, and while preforming the tasks in the Service Letter dated April 12, 1989 - PI3398, the 8R0745 Axle Assembly should be measured for bend. Measure the distance from flange face to flange face at the front and the rear of the axle. When making these measurements it is very important to insure the tape measure is straight across the axle and at the same vertical location at the front and rear. At least two repetitions of the measurements are suggested to assure accuracy. If the distance between the flange faces from front to rear varies by more than 4 mm (.16"), replace the axle. If the tractor or its application has a history of bent axles, replace the axle. In all cases, the
