17. Place the work removed on the work bench with the housing coming on top. Handle them carefully so as not to damage the sliding surfaces of the floating seal. 18. Using a screwdriver, remove the floating seal. By using the method shown below, the floating seal can be easily removed from the seal cover. 19. Using a hexagon wrench, loosen the hexagon socket bolts and remove them from the housing. 20. Remove the seal cover from the housing. If the angular ball bearings and the ring gear are normal, there is no need to remove the seal cover.Using a screwdriver, prise up the seal cover. 21. Using a hexagon wrench, remove the hexagon socket bolts from the ring gear. If the tooth surface of the ring gear and housing are normal, there is no need to disassemble this portion. 22. Pass the wire rope through the M24 eyebolts, then using a crane remove the ring gear from the housing. If the tooth surface of the ring gear is normal, there is no need to disassembly this portion.The angular ball bearings can be removed even when the ring gear and housing are in an assembled condition. 23. Using a press and jig, remove the angular ball bearings from housing. Before removing the augular ball bearings, perform the following checks. If there are no abnormalities, there is no need to remove the angular ball bearings.* When the inner race is rotated, does it turn smoothly without emitting any unusual noise?* Is there any flaking on the ball?* Is there any fretting, wear or scuffing of the inner portion of the inner race?A stroke of 50 mm (2") is necessary in order to remove one bearing. 24. Using the same procedure as that of step (18), remove one side of the floating seal from the spindle. (3) Disassembling sub-assemblies 1. Disassembling side cover assemblies Side cover sub-assembly (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 33, and 50) can not be disassembled into their respective parts. If the ring gear or side cover is abnormal, replace the defective sub-assembly.2. Precautions related to disassembling carrier sub-assemblies, No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Check each sub-assembly according to the following procedure, and replace a sub-assembly only if it is defective.* Gently rotate the planetary gear by hand, and check to see whether or not there is any unusual noise.* Check to see whether or not there is any play between the planetary gear and the pin.* Check to see whether or not there is any abnormality at the tooth surface of the planetary gear.* Check to see whether or not there is any abnormality in any bearing or other component part.If an abnormality is found as a result of performing the above checks, carry out the following work. 3. Disassembling No. 1 carrier sub-assembly 1) Place the No. 1 carrier sub-assembly on the work table with its front side uppermost. 2) Using stop ring pliers, remove the retaining ring from the No. 1 pin.
