Brake shoe (28) and link (29) are installed simultaneously onto mounting pin (30) .Note: Two technicians are recommended in order to ensure that the link and the brake shoes are installed simultaneously.
Tighten set screw (31) and secure the set screw in position with lockwire (32) .

Use Tool (E) in order to install retaining clip (33) for the brake shoes.
Use Tool (F) in order to install retaining spring (34) for the brake shoes.

Position dust shield (35) and install bolts (36) and washers.Tighten the bolts to the following torque: ... 115 14 N m (85 10 lb ft)

Caution must be observed when the brake drum is installed in order to prevent damage to the seal.
Install Tool (G) onto brake drum (37). Use a suitable lifting device in order to install the brake drum on the axle housing.

Install planetary ring gear hub (38) into the brake drum (37) .

Thread wheel bearing adjusting nut (39) onto axle spindle (23). Note: Ensure that the locking feature (40) faces outward.
Perform the following procedure in order to adjust the wheel bearings:
Use Tool (H) to tighten the wheel bearing adjusting nut to the following torque in order to seat the wheel bearings: 542 N m (400 lb ft)Note: The hub must be rotated in both directions while the wheel bearing adjusting nut is tightened.
Rap the hub several times with a soft faced hammer. Then use Tool (H) in order to tighten the wheel bearing adjusting nut to the following torque: 542 N m (400 lb ft)
Loosen the wheel bearing adjusting nut in order to relieve the preload on the wheel bearings. The wheel bearing adjusting nut should have a torque of 0 N m (0 lb ft).
Determine the rolling torque of the wheel hub. The torque value must be obtained while the hub is rotated at a steady rate. Record the torque value that is obtained.
Tighten the wheel bearing adjusting nut to a torque of 34 N m (25 lb ft).

Place the lock ring (41) for the wheel bearing adjusting nut in position. The tab (43) of the lock ring is in the slot (44) of the axle spindle.Note: Ensure that the locking feature (39) on the wheel bearing adjusting nut is aligned with a hole (42) in the lock ring. Tighten the adjusting nut in order to ensure alignment.
