3208 Truck Engines Equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation SystemsDescription of Change: Starting with Serial Numbers 40S48467 through approximately 40S52461, a washer with a conical shape was installed, along with the 4N3371 Flat Washer at the variable timing unit as an "IN AND OUT" to evaluate its effect on timing. As the bolt on the shaft assembly of the tachometer drive is tightened, the washer puts a more even distribution of force against the gear. This decreases any relative movement of the gear on the shaft. That is, any movement of the gear in direct relation to movement of the shaft.Adaptable To: The 98670 Washer does not have to be reinstalled (put back into) on 3208 Truck Engines equipped with exhaust gas recirculation systems. The 4N3371 Flat Washer must be used. If the conical shape washer is reinstalled, install the washer with the small conical end toward the bolt head on the shaft assembly of the tachometer drive (see the illustration).
