Remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the belts from the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".

Remove bolts (1), thrust block (2) and crankshaft pulley (3) .

Use Tooling (A) to drill three evenly spaced holes in crankshaft front seal (4) .
Use Tooling (B) in each of the three holes to evenly remove the crankshaft front seal.
Ensure that the main lip is used in order to remove the crankshaft front seal. Do not damage the edge of the housing for the crankshaft front seal.

Clean the housing for the crankshaft front seal and inspect the housing for damage.
Lubricate the lip of the crankshaft front seal with clean engine oil.Note: The installation sleeve is supplied with a new crankshaft front seal. Do Not separate the installation sleeve from the crankshaft front seal.

Assemble Tooling (C).
Place crankshaft front seal assembly (4) into the front housing.
Ensure that the lip of the crankshaft front seal that is spring loaded is facing toward the inside of the front housing and that it is square with the bore of the housing for the crankshaft front seal.
Use Tooling (C) to install crankshaft front seal assembly (4). The front seal must contact the bottom face of the front housing.
Remove Tooling (C) from the crankshaft. Turn the installation sleeve counterclockwise and pull in order to remove the installation sleeve from the crankshaft front seal.
Apply clean engine oil on the area of the crankshaft pulley that will be in contact with the crankshaft front seal.

Install crankshaft pulley (3), thrust block (2) and bolts (1) .
Install the belts for the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Belts - Inspect/Adjust/Replace".End By: Install the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install".
