Information:
You must read and understand the warnings and instructions contained in the Safety section of this manual before performing any operation or maintenance procedures.Differential and Final Drives
Check Oil Level
At operating temperature, the differential/final drive oil is hot. Refer to the Safety Section for information about hot oil and fluid penetration. 1. Park the machine on level ground. Check the oil level at the sight gauge at the rear of the final drive housing. The oil level should be above the center of the sight gauge. An inaccurate reading can occur if the machine is not level front-to-back or side-to-side. Make sure that the machine is parked on level ground before checking the oil level or adding oil. 2. In order to add oil, remove the breather cap from the filler tube on the left rear of the machine. Add oil until the oil level registers above the center of the sight gauge.3. Clean and install the cap. Make sure that the cap vent is functioning properly.
It is important that the vent cap is free to breath. If excessive vacuum or pressure is allowed to build up in the differential case, leakage of oil through the final drive seals may result.
Front Idler Hubs
Check Oil Level
Maintain the oil level so that the oil can just be seen in the glass. If oil level is low, remove the hub cap center plug. Add the necessary amount of oil and replace the plug. Check idler hub oil level on both sides of the machine.See the topic Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities in the Maintenance Section of this manual for proper oil quantities.Suspension Springs
Check Inflation Pressure
Use a self-attaching inflation chuck and stand behind the belt when inflating springs, to prevent possible personal injury.Proper inflation equipment, and training in using the equipment, are necessary to avoid overinflation.A blowout can result from improper or misused equipment.
Set the inflation equipment regulator at no more than 140 kPa (20 psi) over the recommended pressure to prevent air/spring damage.
A spring inflated in an enclosed shop area at a temperature of 18 to 21°C (65 to 70°F), is underinflated if the machine works in freezing temperatures. To maintain proper inflation pressure, inflate suspension springs in the same temperature at which machine operation occurs. Typically the springs are inflated as follows: Increasing the air spring pressure increases the percentage of the total machine weight carried by the mid-rollers. Increasing air spring pressure can give the following benefits:* Provide better steering performance, especially under load.* Improved ride, due to the mid-rollers absorbing a greater amount of the shock loads.Air spring with insufficient pressure causes poor turning performance under load and increased roughness of ride.Depending on the type of equipment, soil conditions, and performance requirements, the optimal spring pressure may vary from 60-90 psi. Various pressures should be tried to find the optimal setting for the particular situation.
