1. Put the case assembly on tool (E).2. Lower the temperature of bearings cups (31) and (32), and install them in case assembly (22). 3. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (33), and install the bearing cup in retainer (25).4. Install two dowels (34) in retainer (25) until they are 11.0 0.5 mm (0.43 0.02 in) above the surface of the retainer. See dimension (X). 5. Heat two bearing cones (29) to a maximum temperature of 120° C (250° F) for a maximum of eight hours. Install the two bearing cones on gear (27). Be sure the bearing cones are seated squarely against the faces of the gear.6. Put gear (27) in position in the case assembly.7. Position original shims (34) and retainer (25), and install bolts (26). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft).8. Use tooling (J) to check for end play. Add or subtract shims (34) as needed to obtain an allowable end play range of 0.03 to 0.33 mm (.001 to .013 in).9. When the correct shim thickness has been determined, remove bolts (26), retainer (25), shims (34) and gear (27) from the case assembly. 10. Heat the bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 120° C (250° F) for a maximum of eight hours. Install the bearing cone on gear (28). Be sure the bearing cone is seated squarely against the face of the gear. Gears (27) and (28) must be installed in case assembly (22) at the same time.11. Fasten tooling (F) and a hoist to gear (28), and install gears (27) and (28) in case assembly (22). 12. Put shims (34) (determined in Step 8) and retainer (25) in position, and install bolts (26). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft).13. Using 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease, coat the splines of the shaft that gear (27) engages with. 14. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (13), and install the bearing cups in hub (10).15. Use two persons to position brake disc (12) on hub (10). Install bolts (14). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 10 lb ft).

The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put clean oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.16. Use tool (K), and install Duo-Cone seal (15) in hub (10). 17. Clean the sealing surfaces of the case assembly and the main frame case to ensure they are free of oil, dirt or other foreign material.18. Install three 3/4"-10 NC guide bolts as shown.19. Apply 6V6640 Gasket Maker in a continuous 1.6 mm (0.063 in) diameter bead along the final drive housing flange centerline and on a radius around the inside of the bolt holes.20. Fasten tooling (D) and a hoist to case
