EXCAVATOR, WHEELED EXCAVATOR,
Information:
Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot if the following event code is active or logged.
Table 1
Event Code
Description Conditions which Activate the Code System Response
E337 (1) High Engine Oil to Engine Coolant Diff Temp The differential between the temperature of the engine coolant and the temperature of the engine oil is less than the trip point. The delay time has expired. The alarm output is activated. The code is logged.
E337 (3) High Engine Oil to Engine Coolant Diff Temp The shutdown output is activated. The code is logged. The engine is shut down. Note: Refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System" for information on trip points and delay times.Probable Causes
Low engine coolant temperature or high engine oil temperature
Faulty temperature sensor and/or circuit
Faulty water temperature regulatorsRecommended Repairs
Check for Event Codes for the Engine Oil and for the Engine Coolant
Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to check for the following event codes:
E020 (1) High Engine Oil Temperature Warning
E019 (3) High Engine Oil Temperature Shutdown
E038 (1) Low Engine Coolant Temperature WarningIf one or more of the codes is active, troubleshoot the code. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Symptom Troubleshooting".Check the Engine Coolant Temperature and the Engine Oil Temperature
Use Cat ET to check the temperature of the engine coolant and the engine oil.If the temperature of the engine coolant is low, refer to Troubleshooting, "Coolant Temperature Is Low".If the engine oil temperature is high, refer to Troubleshooting, "Oil Temperature Is High".Check the Temperature Sensors and/or Circuits
Use a separate device to measure the temperatures of the engine oil and the engine coolant. Compare the measured temperatures to the readings on Cat ET.If the value of the coolant temperature on Cat ET is incorrect, refer to Troubleshooting, "Sensor Signal (Analog, Passive) - Test".If the oil temperature reading on Cat ET is incorrect, refer to Troubleshooting, "Sensor Signal (Analog, Active) - Test".Check the Water Temperature Regulators
The water temperature regulators should not begin to open until jacket water reaches opening temperature for the regulators. Allow the engine to cool and then start the engine. Check the tube at the outlet for the jacket water. If the tube is warm and normal operating temperature is not achieved yet, a regulator may be stuck open.Check the water temperature regulators according to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Testing the Cooling System". Replace the water temperature regulators, if necessary.
