( 1 ) If the Wolff Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Stand is not available to disassemble the stick cylinder, contact the Caterpillar Service Technology Group.Start By:
Remove the stick cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick Cylinder - Remove" in this manual.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Put the stick cylinder on Tooling (A). The weight of the stick cylinder is 232 kg (510 lb).
Remove grease fitting (12) from rod assembly (8) .
Remove grease fitting (11) from cylinder assembly (1) .
Remove eight bolts (29) that hold head (7) to cylinder assembly (1) .
Use Tooling (A) to slide rod assembly (8) out of cylinder assembly (1) .
Remove ring (5), seal assembly (4) and ring (3) from piston (6) .
Remove ring (13), ring (26), stop (27), and ring (14) from rod assembly (8) .
Use Tooling (B) to remove locknut (2) that holds piston (6) to rod assembly (8) .
Remove piston (6), stop (24) and ring (28) from rod assembly (8) .
Slide cylinder assembly (1) on rod assembly (8). Install eight bolts (29) that hold head (7) to cylinder assembly (1). Pull cylinder assembly (1) and head (7) away from rod assembly (8) .
Remove eight bolts (29). Remove the head (7) from cylinder assembly (1) .
Remove seal (15), ring (16), ring (17), bearing (20), seal (25), ring (19), seal (18), and seal (21) from head (7) .
Remove lip type seals (22) from both sides of cylinder assembly (1). Remove lip type seals (9) from both sides of rod assembly (8) .
Remove bearing (23) from cylinder assembly (1). Remove bearing (10) from rod assembly (8) .
