(8) Inlet for the scavenge for the right side The power train oil pump is a two-section gear pump. The pump is driven by input shaft (6). The input shaft is coupled to the steering pump. The steering pump is driven by the engine through a series of gears.During operation, oil enters each section of the pump through the inlet passages. The oil fills the space between the gear teeth. When the gears turn, oil is sent through the outlet passages.Section "A" of the power train oil pump is the lubrication and cooling section (5). The pump draws oil from the power train oil tank. The oil is drawn into the pump through lubrication and cooling inlet passage (7). The pump sends oil to the filter through lubrication and cooling outlet passage (1). The power train oil passes through the power train oil filter and the power train oil cooler. After exiting the cooler, some oil is diverted in order to provide cooling to the rotor of the generator. The remaining oil flows to the electric drive propulsion module. Inside the electric drive propulsion module, the oil provides lubrication and cooling for the planetaries and the brakes. The oil also provides cooling for the motors in the propulsion module.Section "B" of the power train oil pump is the scavenge section (4). The pump draws oil from the housing of the electric drive propulsion module from two separate locations. The oil is drawn from the left side (3) and the right side (8) of the housing of the propulsion module and returned to the power train oil tank through the outlet for the scavenge section (2). Each inlet to the scavenge section of the pump contains a screen. The screens catch large debris in the power train oil. The screens prevent debris in the power train oil from damaging the power train pump.
