Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install magnetic screen (28) and suction screen (29).

Position cover (26) and O-ring seal (27) (not shown). Install bolts (25).

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (24). Install bearing cup (24) into the transfer gear case.

Raise the temperature of bearing cones (23). Install bearing cones (23) onto transfer gear (22).
Position transfer gear (22) into the transfer gear case.

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (20). Install bearing cup (20) into bearing cage (18).

Install the original amount of shims (21). Install bearing cage (18) and bolts (19). Tighten bolts (19) to a torque of 50 10 N m (37 7 lb ft).
Use Tooling (D) to measure the end play of bearing cone (23). Add or subtract shims (21) in order to achieve an end play measurement of 0.15 0.05 mm (0.006 0.002 inch).

Install tube assembly (15).
Install bolt (16) that holds tube assembly (15) to the transfer gear case. Bend clip (17) against the head of bolt (16).

Raise the temperature of bearing cones (14). Install bearing cones (14) onto transfer gear (11).

If necessary, install the spring pins to retainer assembly (13). Install retainer assembly (13) to transfer gear (11). Install retaining ring (12).

Install transfer gear (11) to the transfer gear case.

Apply Tooling (E) to the seal bore in bearing cage (5) and allow Tooling (E) to dry. Note: Do not apply Tooling (E) to the lip seal.
Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (9) to bearing cage (5). Lubricate the sealing lip of lip seal (9) lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
Lower the temperature of bearing cup (8). Install bearing cup (8) to bearing cage (5).
Install O-ring seal (10) to bearing cage (5).

Lubricate the bore of the transfer gear case lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed. Install the original shims and bearing cage (5) to the transfer gear case. Install bolts (6), bolt (7), and the spacers. Tighten bolts (6) and bolt (7) to a torque of 50 10 N m (37 7 lb ft).
Use Tooling (D) to measure the end play of bearing cone (12). Add or subtract shims between bearing cage (5) and the transfer gear case in order to achieve an end play measurement of 0.15 0.05 mm (0.006 0.002 inch).
Install speed sensor (3) (not shown). Install guard assembly (4).

Install yoke (1) and bolt (2). Tighten bolt (2) to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft). End By:
Connect the transmission planetary to the transfer gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission and Transfer Gears - Connect".
