Information:

Table 1
100% Duty Cycle     4.20 VDC
95% Duty Cycle     4.12 VDC
70% Duty Cycle     3.64 VDC
50% Duty Cycle     3.21 VDC
30% Duty Cycle     2.66 VDC
05% Duty Cycle     1.6 VDC
00% Duty Cycle     0.80 VDC    Expected Result:The sensor signal output voltages agree with the voltage values in Table 1. Results:
YES - The signal output voltages agree with the values listed in Table 1. The signal voltages at the sensor are correct. Proceed to Test Step 5.
NO - The sensor signal output voltages are NOT correct. The sensor signal voltages are more than 14.5 VDC. The sensor output signal is shorted to a voltage source. Proceed to Test Step 4.Test Step 4. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO A VOLTAGE SOURCE.The sensor signal voltage is more than 14.5 VDC. The probable cause is a short to a voltage source wire in the harness.
Turn the engine OFF. Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At the machine ECM, disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connector from the ECM.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Boom Cylinder Head Pressure sensor.
At the J1 harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance between signal contact J1-37 (E410-OR) and all of the other contacts used in the harness connectors for the ECM. Expected Result:Each measurement is more than 5000 ohms. Results:
YES - Each measurement is more than 5000 ohms. The sensor output signal is NOT shorted to a power supply. Proceed to Test Step 5.
NO - One of the measurements is NOT more than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the harness. The sort is between the sensor signal output wire and the wire with the low resistance measurement. Repair: Repair, or replace, the harness.Verify that the problem was corrected, and the CID 1178 FMI 03 diagnostic code is no longer active.STOPTest Step 5. CHECK FOR AN OPEN SENSOR SIGNAL OUTPUT TO THE ECM.
Reconnect all of the machine harness connectors. Make sure that all of the connectors are fully seated, and that the clips for each connector are fastened securely.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position. Start the engine.
At the ECM J1 harness connector, insert the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe leads alongside signal contact J1-37 (E410-OR), the Boom Cylinder Head Pressure sensor output signal, and the sensor Analog Ground contact J1-18 (A209-BK).
Measure the voltage between contact J1-37 (E410-OR) and contact J1-18 (A209-BK).Note: The Boom Cylinder Head Pressure sensor outputs a Pulse Width Modulated signal. Use Table 1 to verify the sensor signal output values to the ECM.Note: There may be need to raise and lower the Boom, as the DC voltage measurements are taken. Note: Confirm no more than 1.56 VDC at 5% Duty Cycle. Also, confirm at least 4.20 VDC, but less than 14.5 VDC, at 95% Duty Cycle, for an OK pressure sensor.
Compare these measurements against the voltages that were measured during Test Step
