The machine engine 190-8970 Base As and 217-8339 Fuel Filter Base Assembly are experiencing corrosion and debris inside the body of the pump. This can be caused by reduced drain intervals of the water separator or the fuel filters not being changed regularly. The debris corrodes the electrical connections inside the pump body. Corrosion causes the pump to become inoperable. Refer to Illustration 1.

Solution
If any of the above listed machines are experiencing repeated failures of the 190-8970 Base As or 217-8339 Fuel Filter Base Assembly make sure that the water separator is being drained daily. Ensure that the fuel filter is changed according to the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Sampling of the fuel from the fuel tank may be necessary in order to determine if there are high levels of water or contaminants.
