Schematic of the 8 VDC sensor supplyA CID 0041 FMI 03 diagnostic code is recorded when the electronic control module (ECM) reads the voltage of the sensor supply circuit (wire R800-OR) as higher than normal. The following causes could signal this diagnostic code:
A sensor has failed.
The sensor supply circuit (wire R800-OR) is shorted to the +battery circuit.
The Chassis ECM has failed. A failure of the ECM is unlikely.Note: Ensure that the CID 0041 FMI 03 diagnostic code is active.System Response:An error will be logged for the components that receive power from the sensor supply. In addition, the readout for the temperature sensor of the torque converter will display a maximum reading. Repair the voltage supply circuit and check the machine again for diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSOR.
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the sensors.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
At the back of the harness connector for each sensor (refer to the schematic at the beginning of this procedure), insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the voltage supply wire (contact A).
Measure the voltage from contact A to frame ground.Expected Result:The voltage is 8 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage at each sensor is 8 0.5 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage at all of the sensors is higher than 8 VDC. The supply wire is shorted to another voltage source.Repair: Check the wiring harness for damage that is caused by chafing or an impact. Repair the wiring harness or replace the wiring harness. Check the condition of the circuit after the harness has been repaired.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR PROPER GROUND AT THE SENSOR.
The machine harness remains connected to the sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe from the voltage supply wire (contact A).
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the ground wire (contact B).
Measure the resistance from contact B to frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance is less than five Ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than five Ohms. The ground circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. Inspect the wiring harness for damage that is caused by chafing or an impact. Repair the wiring harness or replace the wiring harness. Check the condition of the ground circuit, after the wiring harness has been repaired.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE SENSOR.Note: Perform this test for each sensor in the system.
At the back of the harness connector for each of the sensors, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the signal wire (contact C).
At the back of the harness connector for each of the sensors, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the ground wire (contact B).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Measure the signal of each of the sensors.Expected Result:The signal from each of the sensors is
