Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury or death. Relieve pressure before disconnecting hydraulic lines, tighten all connections before applying pressure, and inspect all lines before each use. See "Safety" section in the operation manual for additional information.If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The hydraulic cylinders for the following components on the implement may need to be purged before operation:
Frame
Wings
Disc gangs (if equipped)Complete the following procedure if your situation meets one of the following conditions:
The implement hydraulic system has never been used.
The implement has been stored over a period of time.
The implement has been disassembled for any reason.Purge the Raise/Lower Hydraulic Cylinders for the Frame
Attach the implement to a tractor.Reference: See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Implement Attaching" for additional information.Note: The procedure to purge the raise/lower hydraulic cylinders for the frame does not require the cylinders to be disconnected from the frame.
Check the hydraulic reservoir for the tractor. Make sure that the reservoir is filled to the proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the tractor that is attached.Note: Do not unfold the wings if the hydraulic cylinders for the wings need to be purged.Reference: See "Purge the Hydraulic Cylinders for the Wings" for the procedure to purge the hydraulic cylinders for the wings.
Unlock the wheel transport lock valve.
After you are sure that the hydraulic hoses for the implement are attached to the tractor, extend and retract the lift cylinders.
Check the hydraulic reservoir for the tractor. Make sure that the reservoir is filled to the proper level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the tractor that is attached.
Hold the implement control lever open at the end of each stroke. Pause at the end of each stroke in order to purge the air from the hydraulic system. Continue cycling the cylinders until the cylinder responds with a quick, solid action.
After you are sure that the hydraulic system is free of air, raise the implement and lock the wheel transport lock valve.Purge the Hydraulic Cylinders for the Wings
Unfolding the wings with hydraulic cylinders that need to be purged could cause damage to the implement.
Note: The cylinders for all of the wings must be purged.
