Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.1. Drain the steering tank oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the steering tank is 90 liters (23.7 US gal). 2. Loosen hose clamps (2). Remove the two nuts, the two bolts and the washers that hold tube assembly (1) to steering and transmission pump (3). Remove the tube assembly.3. Disconnect hose assembly (4) from steering and transmission pump (3). 4. Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6) from the steering and transmission pump.5. Remove two bolts (7) and the washers that hold the steering and transmission pump to the pump drive. Remove the steering and transmission pump from the pump drive. The weight of the steering and transmission pump is 43 kg (95 lb).
