Assemble the following items: gear (1), bearing cage (3) and bearings. Tighten all bearing cage bolts (4) evenly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transfer Gears" for the procedure on assembling the transfer gears.
Position the housing in a vertical position. Rotate gear (1) several times in order to seat the bearings.
Measure gap (2) between the housing and bearing cage (3) .
Add shims that are required in order to obtain 0.10 0.05 mm (0.004 0.002 inch) of end play.
Measure the end play at gear (1) .
If the end play is less than 0.05 mm (0.002 inch), add shims. If the end play is greater than 0.15 mm (0.006 inch), remove shims.
Apply 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket on bore surface (5). Allow 7M-7260 Liquid Gasket to dry before installing the seal.
Torque twelve bolts (4) to a torque of 45 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).
