Illustration 2 g06211936
Typical example of damage to the valve in the electronic unit injector.
(X) Damage to the valveNote: The damage shown in Illustration 2 is caused by debris in the engine fuel system. The damage is not due to the quality of the component.Damage has been found to valve group (1) in the electronic unit injectors. Refer to Illustration 2, position (X). The root cause of the damage is debris in the engine fuel system. Follow these guidelines to prevent damage to the fuel injectors.Note: Cat® Reman electronic unit injectors use the same new valve components that are used in new electronic unit injectors. The valves are not remanufactured. When investigating suspected issues with the fuel system, follow the relevant troubleshooting procedures before replacing any components. Investigate the source of the fuel. If necessary, take fuel samples for analysis. Check the maintenance history of the application to ensure that all maintenance procedures have been performed at the recommended maintenance intervals.

Ensure that the fuel being used meets ISO 18/16/13. Ensure that the fuel is clean and free from dirt and debris before filling the fuel tank.Caterpillar recommends that Caterpillar fuel filters are used to maintain the recommended levels of fuel cleanliness.Ensure that the following maintenance is performed using the correct procedures and maintenance intervals:
Draining the fuel tank sediments
Draining/Cleaning the primary fuel filter/water separator
Maintaining the fuel tank breather
Replacing the fuel filters
Checking the cleanliness of the fuel system during maintenance or repairReference Section
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual and Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting for more information.New fuel filters are available for certain applications. Refer to SEPD1575, "New High Efficiency Secondary and Tertiary Fuel Filters Are Available for Certain 312D, 315D, and 319D Excavators" for more information.Refer to SENR9620, "Improving Component Durability" on "Dealer.cat.com" for further information on maintaining the fuel system. For warranty terms and conditions, refer to "Warranty.Cat.com".
