Be sure that the mating surfaces of the upper structure and the undercarriage frame are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris. Note: The guide bolts in the upper structure must be in the proper position. One locating dowel is used to align the upper structure with the undercarriage frame. Be sure that this dowel is in position in the upper structure.
Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound in the bore of the swing gear and bearing for the locating dowel in the upper structure.

Raise the upper structure from Tooling (C) with a suitable lifting device and Tooling (B). Remove Tooling (C) from the front of the upper structure.

Use a lift truck to move undercarriage frame (8) in position under the upper structure. Be sure that the alignment mark on the upper structure and the swing gear and bearing are in close alignment.
Because of the minimal clearance between the pinion shaft, swing gear, and bearing, careful alignment of the upper structure and the undercarriage frame assembly is required.Be sure the guide bolts do not bend during installation of the upper structure. If the guide bolts bend, it is an indication that correct alignment between the upper structure and the undercarriage frame assembly has not been obtained. Keep the upper structure level during installation.

Lower upper structure (6) downward with Tooling (B) and with the hoist in 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) increments. As the upper structure is being lowered, be sure that two guide bolts (5) in the upper structure align with the respective bolt hole in the undercarriage frame. Be sure that the locating dowel in the upper structure is in alignment with the hole in the swing gear and bearing.

Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of 25 bolts (3). Install the 25 bolts that hold the upper structure to the undercarriage frame. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 216 22 N m (160 16 lb ft).

Remove Tooling (B). Remove the suitable lifting device from the front of the machine.
Connect the blade and the blade cylinders to the undercarriage frame, if the machine is equipped with a blade. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Blade - Remove and Install" and Disassembly and Assembly, "Blade Cylinder - Install".
Engage the parking brakes. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Towing Information" for the correct procedure to engage the brake.End By:
Install the swivel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swivel - Install".
Install the swing boom (if equipped). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Boom - Install".
Install the offset boom (if equipped). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Offset Boom - Install (Lower)".
Install the hydraulic oil tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Oil Tank - Install".
Install the counterweight. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Counterweight - Install".
Install the engine hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Install".
