End view of multiple row module. Dimensions for positioning the module with the "narrow" side toward each other, and the "wide" sides toward each other. It is important that the multiple row modules are correctly oriented when installed. The neck, location (D), is identified in two ways.* There is an embossed rib pattern on top of the module. The two small ribs at location (B) indicate the side of the module with the larger dimension.* The center stiffener has one corner notched at location (C). The larger dimension is on the half that is notched.2. Identify the folded core locating depressions (dimples) in the bottom tank. Only the row of dimples CLOSEST to the radiator guard (away from the engine) are used. 3. Install new 9Y1654 and 9Y1655 Seals (3) and (4), and 7E2308 Supports (2). These must be installed on the top and bottom tanks first. Supports (2) should be glued in place using 5H2471 Contact Cement.Although there is no particular starting point, it is recommended to position and install from one end and work toward the opposite end. This will reduce the chance of any possible damage to the cooling fins on adjacent modules.
Location of the two ribs and typical dimple locations. Dimples (solid dots) are shown for illustration purposes only. Also notice that the location of the dimples are staggered.4. Determine whether the locating dimple in the bottom tank (grill side) is to the right or left of the coolant hole.Position the multiple row module so that the notch in the center tab is to the SAME side of the coolant hole as the dimple. See illustration above. It is no longer necessary to keep track of the former trash gap locations. The notch in the center tabs will alternate directions automatically. Eight water modules will be used to convert the seven water modules and one hydraulic module that comprise the folded core radiator. An air to oil hydraulic cooler is mounted in series between the fan guard and engine on the right side of the vehicle.5. Block (stabilize) the bottom tank off the floor securely so the radiator can be reassembled.6. Install side channels on the bottom tank.7. Using 5P3975 rubber lubricant, lubricate coolant seals (installed in Step 3 above) in the bottom tank. 8. Install 7E6564 Water Module (1) at each end of the bottom tank with the center tab facing "inward". See procedure in Step 4 above. 9. Install the remaining six modules by alternating the center tab cutoff direction, following the procedure in Step 4 above.10. Install the 2W5555 Strap Assemblies (5) between the module center tabs using 5S7382 Bolts (15) and 8T2561 Washers (16).
Do NOT tighten bolts at this time.
11. Lubricate the top tank coolant seals and position the top tank just above the modules.* Align the module coolant necks to the seal bores.* Lower the tank into position slowly.* Slight pressure should "seat" the tank.
To prevent possible damage, do not draw the tank down with the top tank bolts.
12. Once the
