Connections of the "Transmission Output Speed 2 B" SensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Transmission Output Speed 2 B" Sensor. The FMI 08 diagnostic code means that the ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width of the sensor is not within the expected range.Note: The diagnostic code will not be cleared until the machine has been driven.This sensor is a frequency sensor. The sensor is placed just above the magnetic ring in the transmission. The sensor sends a voltage to the ECM as the magnetic poles pass the sensor tip. The frequency is proportional to the speed of the transmission. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed.
The machine harness is open
The machine harness has shorted to battery
The machine harness has shorted to ground
The spacing of the sensor is incorrect.
The target is damaged.
Intermittent connections or poor connections
Mechanical devices are loose.
The ECM has failed. The ECM failing is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and that all connections are secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Each connector contact should withstand 45 N (10 lb) of pull. Each wire should remain in the connector body. This test checks whether the wire was properly crimped in the contact and whether the contact was properly inserted into the connector.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3792 FMI 08 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter that has been calibrated for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC CODES
Check to see if there is an active CID 0081 on the Transmission ECM.Expected Result:There is an active CID 0081 on the Transmission ECM.Results:
OK - There is an active CID 0081. Proceed to test step 4.
NOT OK - There is not an active CID 0081 on the Transmission ECM. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK FOR AN OPEN WIRE IN THE MACHINE HARNESS
Turn the key switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and the J2 machine harness connectors from the Transmission ECM.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor.
Install a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire X800-OR) to contact 3 (wire J711-PU) on the machine harness connector for the sensor.
Measure resistance from contact J1-7 (wire J711-PU) to contact J1-44 (wire X800-OR).Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest
